RANI DE CONINCK AND ‘CO-MOTHERS’ NADINE AND DARLYNNE DISCUSS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL JOB IN THE WORLD

‘MOTHERHOOD, YOU GROW INTO IT’

On 8 May, we celebrate the most beautiful job in the world. Nina magazine spoke with Rani De Coninck and her ‘co-mothers' about motherhood and the trial-and-error nature of becoming a mother. Their strength, as a mother? They accentuate their strength with distinctive Xandres looks that make every moment meaningful.

Rani’s demanding career in radio and television requires her complete focus, which she can only give it when she knows that her children are in good hands. While looking for a babysitter for Leon, her youngest son, Rani met Nadine, a mother of five; and Darlynne, who became a first-time mom last year. Both women have been a huge help, acting as a kind of ‘co-mother' for Leon as well as being Rani’s confidants.

DON’T TRY TO BE THE PERFECT MOM. INSTEAD, BE A LOVING MOM WHO MAKES MISTAKES AND DARES TO SHOW HER VULNERABLE SIDE TO HER CHILDREN.

— RANI DE CONINCK

LEON WAS THE SIXTH CHILD IN OUR FAMILY. AFTER GIVING BIRTH TO MY SECOND CHILD, I STOPPED WORKING. FREQUENTLY, THE OTHER PARENTS AT SCHOOL WOULD SAY TO ME, ‘YEAH, BUT YOU’RE HOME ALL DAY.’ WHILE, SOMETIMES, I HADN’T EVEN GOT AROUND TO THE IRONING YET BY THE EVENING.

— NADINE

BEING A MOM IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO LEARN. YOU DO SUDDENLY BECOME A MOM. BUT MOTHERHOOD, YOU GROW INTO IT. I’M A VERY DIFFERENT MOM NOW TO THE ONE I WAS JUST AFTER GIVING BIRTH.

— DARLYNNE
