Designed and crafted in our Belgian atelier, made of leftover fabrics from last summer and just in time for Valentine’s Day—our upcycled kaftan comes with a story. With only 55 numbered units in each color, the kaftan reflects 55 years of Xandres and the love involved in that: love for our brand, for you, and for the story we share.
This temporary project took place in 2023 as part of our “Xandres Lab”
HOW TO STYLE
A numbered, one-size-fits-all design with beautifully draped sleeves in stylish bronze or soft mint green, our kaftan is made to love. Wear it delicately and romantically over your favourite lingerie—like sustainable Belgian label Ophelia—with swimwear, or style it with a day-to-day look.
UPCYCLING BY XANDRES LAB
The flowing, silky fabric of the kaftan was a favourite during Spring-Summer 22 in the form of a supple two-piece; this spring, it serves as a canvas for something new.
Xandres has leftover fabrics from a collection after every season, but they are not all considered waste. On the contrary, under a low-waste principle, the remaining high-quality materials are repurposed by upcycling them in another design. Projects like this happen in the “Xandres Lab”, where we experiment with low-impact innovations to reduce waste.
HOW THE KAFTAN CAME ABOUT
#1 Upcycling of surplus fabric from SS222
To avoid waste, we used surplus fabric stocks from last year’s summer collection to create unique new designs.
#2 Design
A one-size-fits-all design that any woman can shine in.
#3 Prototype
This is where the design first comes to life. Before the item goes into production, the colour and size are checked and fine-tuned.
#4 Production
The 110 exclusive kaftans were made entirely in Belgium, produced locally in the Xandres atelier.
