Vegan sneakers made of apple leather
Small footprint, big step
A temporary collab with Belgian sneaker label Komrads took place in 2022 as part of our “Xandres Lab”.
Stylish, Belgian and made 100% vegan from recycled materials: our latest limited edition collab with sneaker label Komrads proves that fashion and innovative entrepreneurship go hand in hand. Together we developed a contemporary sneaker in apple leather, made of residual waste from the apple processing industry. True to the iconic urban Komrads look, the typical Xandres signature on top.
Done is better than perfect
Every season, we engage in valuable collabs with lower-impact brands through our Xandres Lab; they inspire us with their approaches, and we offer them a platform. These brands seek to reduce their impact on people and the environment through various means. In the autumn of 2022, that role was given to Komrads, a label that, like Xandres, stands for Belgian craftsmanship, authenticity and the drive to make a difference. Xandres sustainability manager Jasmien Wynants and Komrads founder Greet Goegebuer on the unique collab:
Outer shell: apple leather
Apple leather is made from the residual waste produced by the apple industry, such as apple cores and peels. The material is therefore vegan, zero waste and a high-quality alternative to animal leather!
Lining and laces: 100% recycled cotton
A better choice than traditional, as its production avoids using billions of litres of water.
Sole: 100% recycled rubber
Recycled rubber is a very strong, high-quality material that lasts a long time. Moreover, it is coloured with organic paint.
The Xandres signature
The collab was built on the original Komrads concept, but with the look and feel of Xandres. The emerald green fits perfectly into the collection and along the side you can see special stitching with the well-known Xandres-X.
A full denim look also calls for an easy-going sneaker, where the colour accent provides a nice contrast to the monochrome outfit. Prefer matchy-matchy? Then choose items with a print in the same green shade for a balanced look.
Bright pink and green, it's a match made in heaven. Both colours are energetic and eye-catching, and especially in combination they make a real pick-me-up. The modern design of the trainer gives both an elegant dress and casual jeans extra spice!
