IN FOCUS: PRINTS

Did you know that many of our colourful prints are hand-painted and designed in-house? Print & Graphic Designer Laure De Bosschere is a fountain of creativity and has been translating that into unique and bold patterns at Xandres for two and a half years. Find out what her design process looks like, what her favourite prints are and how she styles them with the rest of the collection.

UNIQUE PATTERNS

‘In-house designed prints give the Xandres collection a unique and personal feel that you won't find anywhere else,’ says Laure. ‘As a Graphic Designer, I get a lot of freedom to express myself creatively; I balance my organic, feminine drawing style with the fresh colour themes so typical of Xandres.’

FROM A WATERCOLOUR STUDY TO FABRIC SWATCHES

At the start of each season, the design team takes inspiration from trend forecasts and fabric fairs, after which we determine the main trends for the next collection.

'Before I convert a print to digital, I design it on paper. I prefer to use watercolour or acrylic paint, which gives beautiful painting effects that give depth and texture to the pattern. For flat prints, I use a thick marker to draw,’ says Laure.

’Once it is in digital form, I turn the drawing into a pattern, and I can adjust all the colours. Then samples of the fabric are printed so we can see what fits best in the collection. Seeing the pattern come to life like that is always exciting.’

THE ULTIMATE PRINT

For Laure, the check, in all its forms, is the all-time print classic:
‘This season we gave a contemporary twist to the classic with a multi-colour and duotone version. In line with current trends, but still as stylish and timeless as always. Personally, I also prefer to wear more neutral prints like these, especially the watercolour checks in warm berry tones.’

‘My favourite to design? I love a challenge, so the jersey flower was totally my thing. Not a classic floral print, but a blurry and casual version.'

LAURE'S MUST-HAVES

These two looks match my personal style very well and are easy to combine with items I already have hanging in my wardrobe. Other favourites of the collection are the lacquer skirt with a matching jacket and the black and white tweed skirt with a blazer. I also think the swirl in the green colour scheme is a must-have print!’ says Laure.

“In-house ontworpen prints geven de Xandres- collectie een unieke en persoonlijke feel, die je nergens anders vindt.” zegt Laure. “Als Graphic Designer krijg ik veel vrijheid om me creatief te uiten, en zoek ik een balans tussen mijn eigen organische, vrouwelijke tekenstijl en de frisse kleurenthema’s die zo typerend zijn voor Xandres.”
